Some Extra-Campaign Methods
If you can't find a way to end your campaign through roleplaying methods,
there are some external techniques you can adopt.
LOSING THE NOTES
One GM known to us alleged that his mum, annoyed with him one day, threw
out all his campaign notes.
Think about it. Every scenario you wrote, every NPC character sheet, all the
maps and diagrams. All gone. Cast iron excuse.
BURN OUT
Claiming to have burnt-out gives a conveniently wide scope combined with a
certain vagueness, and has none of the stigma associated with a good
old-fashioned nervous breakdown.
GIRLFRIEND
It is my understanding that according to rule 1 of "the Code" you can
abandon any meeting or event you have arranged with male friends, with
absolutely no notice, and no explanation - if a woman is involved.
So a new "girlfriend" suddenly appearing on the scene gives you the scope to
say that you no longer have time to do the additional preparation work
involved with GMing.
(About nine months ago I was actually forced to formally invoke the Code in
order to get out of my Saturday gaming session to go to Paris with Tattoo Girl.
Of course, given how things went after that, invoking the code turned out to
have been a spectaculary bad move, so perhaps this is not the best of
advice).
