Contents Jobs

Let's take a little look at the working conditions of a Cyber Punk world. Most of the work is Contract Work (including under the table, shadowrun type jobs) This means you are hired for a specific term or to do a single task. The amount you are paid is usually a fixed sum: 25% when you begin, 25% in the middle and 50% when the job is done. The turn-over rate of employees is quite high, as Companies seek those who will offer the highest quality performance. If you don't live up to their expectations, then they simply don't call on you next time.

No need to fire anyone.

The worker is expected to have the tools and materials necessary to do the job. They are also expected to be with in easy reach - have their own cell phone - and be available to work or give status reports at ANY time. If the employer supplies uniforms and materials, the worker must rent them.

There is no such thing as getting paid extra for working over-time. Employers give you a set number of hours in a day and they expect work to be completed in that time. If it takes you longer, so be it... but you don't get paid for this extra time. If the work is left undone, you will quickly find yourself black listed. As all employers have access to your work record, any black mark will severely hinder you getting new contracts.

There is no such thing as vacation or sick time. You can take a break between contracts, if you have the money to afford it. However turning down a job can be dangerous, as this may result in a black mark. If you do get sick in the middle of a contract, good luck to you. Better hope there is no clause letting the employer sue you for failure to live up to obligations. The ideal work condition is to be a company man. This means that you are employed full time. Your company, for whatever reason, thinks well of you, and will always find some work for you to do. This situation may even lead to benefits and vacation time.
