It Slices! It Dices! And It Still Cuts Through A Blast
Door!
We should begin with what exactly a Jedi character is. Many of us have cut
our teeth on fantasy games, so I'll break down a Jedi character into its' fantasy
equivalent.
A Jedi is a warrior. He can fight with the best of them, and with the Force as
his ally, there are very few beings in the galaxy who can stand toe to toe with a
skilled Jedi and walk away unscathed.
A Jedi is a wizard. He can perform wonders with the Force that would astound
the common folk. He can move objects with his mind, communicate with his
thoughts, sense impending danger, see into the past, or the future. He can
perform impossible feats of strength with his body, and he very rarely gets tired.
Oh, and I did forget to mention that he never needs to sleep or rest after using
his abilities, and he doesn't need to "memorise" spells either. The Force is
always at his disposal, wherever, and whenever he needs it.
A Jedi is a priest. He can heal his own wounds with a thought. He can heal
the wounds of others. He can control his own, or anyone else's pain. He can
boost his own body's natural abilities. He can expand his senses to see farther
or smell better than the best blood hound. He can resist poisons or toxins,
even absorb energy right into his body, including blaster bolts. Oh yes, and he
can bring you back from death's very door, all without even paying the
slightest homage to a god, or deity. He observes some strict practices or
adheres to a code of ethics, but he doesn't need to pray, or give up all his
worldly possessions to a greedy church.
Finally, he is armed with the most elegant and deadly weapon the galaxy has
ever seen. The lightsaber is unique, no two ever being the same. Think of it as
a vorpal blade, capable of slicing through almost anything. It can defeat any
other melee weapon handily, and can even be used to parry blaster bolts -
though only with great training. (Those of you who've seen the Episode 1
movie have seen in a graphic and brilliant way the damage a lightsaber can do
to an inanimate object such as a blast door)
The Jedi's greatest strength is the Force. With it, a Jedi can do almost anything
he or she sets their mind to. I have decided to help my fellow GM's along with
a brief description, and more importantly, interpretation, of some of the more
classic, and rules bending, powers a Jedi has at his disposal.
